It is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) originally founded in Bangladesh. The organization is skewed towards eradicating poverty especially in rural areas through initiating special programs that create job opportunities and also provide educational program to the children from poor Backgrounds.BRAC has initiated microfinance programs for instance, the micro-credit plus. Such programs targets the poor in the rural parts of Bangladesh especially those with small pieces of land which are not sufficient for productive farming. The funds are not provided to the individuals rather, it is given to the groups formed. The grouping are based on villages, whereby one member is picked from each homestead.Also, BRAC, by virtue of its innovative and talented managers, has established various productive enterprises. Points in a cases are the BRAC rural enterprises which deal in producing various goods such as chalk, seeds, shoes, and sanitary napkins (Michael Stephen, 2012). The money generated from this enterprises are channeled to poverty alleviation programs such Micro-credit plus and educational programs.Having realized the importance of empowering the society through education, BRAC has taken part in initiating education program, aimed at supporting the children from the marginalized groups. BRAC employs many teachers to facilitate such educational programs (Haiplik, 2004). It is estimated that the program has provided over 65,000 teaching job opportunities in Bangladesh.Moreover, BRAC organization trains an employs many para-professionals from various villages to work in health sector. The employed paraprofessionals assist a lot the poor in controlling various diseases, for instance Tuberculosis (TB).The above activities undertaken by the organization have benefited the poor in various ways. First, i t has provided job opportunities to the paraprofessionals who would not have been absorbed to the public and private sectors. Also the BRAC educational system has enabled the children from poor background acquire education. Additionally, the microfinance programs have supported the farmers and other business persons expand their activities thus improve their economic status.BRAC Model and Its performance in ensuring Economic DevelopmentBRAC employs graduation model. Graduation model has three main partners which include financial service (microfinance organization), livelihoods promoter and health services provider. The model takes five stages in ensuring economic development for the poor. The first stage entails selection of the needy households (Poorest families). In the second stage, the selected households are supplied with relief food for consumption. The third stage incolves encouraging the households to save by being registered in the microfinance groups. (Zaman, 1999). The fourth stage incorporates training of the selected households on how to run business successfully. The fifth stage involves providing subsidized asset. The subsidization of the assets helps them take part in various economic activities of their choices.The above stages entirely needs funds. The funds are generated from various economic activities. Below are some of the performances which ensure economic development. * Entrepreneurship: The organization has established various enterprises which produces various which include Chalks.
